Bleasby in Bloom 2020 - get creating!
Bleasby Parish Council
You will recall the wonderful flower displays created last summer by many households in Bleasby, Goverton and Gibsmere for the first Bleasby in Bloom event. It was a marvellous way of brightening up our streets and helped attract many visitors to the Bleasby Open Gardens Event.
There were some very imaginative and thought provoking displays brightening up the village throughout the whole summer – for a reminder, have a look at the Community Website.
As the Bleasby VE Day Celebratory Event planned for the 8th of May has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus situation, we thought it would still be a lovely idea to invite every household to take part in Bleasby in Bloom 2020.
This would provide another way to commemorate VE Day along with an opportunity to say thank you to all those who are helping to support and care for each other during the challenging times we face in 2020.
Your display can be small or large and as brightly coloured as you can make it; it does not even need to be made from flowers and no-one will mind a touch of humour thrown into the pot! However, please ensure that your display does not obstruct the pavements or obstruct visibility for car drivers.
It would be marvellous if we could get some displays in place by the 8th of May to help commemorate VE Day, but the overall aim is to have as many displays as possible continuing to bloom throughout the summer months.
The early May timing may be a bit tricky in so far as the choice of flowering plants that are in bloom during that week will be dependent upon our highly unpredictable spring weather. Although there are restrictions on availability of plants from garden centres, many of the local stores are offering home deliveries, so give them a call nearer the day and see what is available.
You can also consider alternatives to plants – use blossom from the many trees in our gardens or perhaps bulbs such as late flowering tulips and daffodils, or homegrown wildflowers.
Definitely get the kids involved – why not make a creative collage or a crafty creation; search the garden together for wildlife ideas. The displays can go in the window if you prefer – make it fun!
Whilst this is a communal event, it can take place whilst adhering to the most recent Government guidelines for isolation and at the same time bring a bit of sunshine and happiness to us all during these challenging times.
To help share what’s out there with everyone there is a dedicated page on the Community Website (click here) which will show photos of the displays and regular posts made on the Bleasby Village Facebook page.
We hope you join in and enjoy.
