Last year, in conjunction with other villages around Southwell, Bleasby Grasshoppers joined a campaign to help save the declining population of swifts in the UK. We had such a positive response that in Bleasby alone we managed to add a total of 24 new swifts boxes at various locations around the parish. Although there were plenty of sightings of the swifts as they arrived throughout the summer, unfortunately none were seen to nest. That’s fine though as it can take up to five years for a pair to decide to set up home. The more nesting sites there are, the more likely the swifts will return and start to expand. So, in 2025 we would love to be able to add more boxes. The year has started well with a couple of residents already agreeing to install a box on a north or east facing wall of their house. Also, St Mary’s Church has given permission to install a multi-cavity nesting box in the bell tower.

We can help you with advice on where to fit a box, where to source a box and even possibly help with installation. Please take some time to give this serious consideration and get in touch with us to explore what’s possible.
